how can I easily determine if I have an increased risk to suffer a stroke or heart attack?
Compiled by MRC Chronic Diseases of Lifestyle Research Unit

Risk factor questions

  1. Have you had angina, a heart attack or a stroke?
  2. Has a doctor or nurse told you:
    • that your blood pressure is too high?
    • that you are a diabetic?
    • that your blood cholesterol is too high?
  3. Are you a smoker?
  4. Has a close relative had a heart attack before the age of 50 years?
  5. Are you physically unfit?
  6. Are you overweight?

  • If you answered yes to question 1, you are at increased risk of having another heart attack or stroke.
  • If you answered yes to two or more of any of these questions, you have an increased risk of having a heart attack or a stroke.
  • If you do not know the answers to any of these questions, it is recommended that you find out so that you can reduce your risk of having a heart attack or a stroke.

If you have an increased risk, please discuss this with your doctor
as your risk can be reduced!
