In 2004 Steve Rollnick, one of the pioneers of MI, came to South Africa and trained a group of local trainers with an interest in applying MI in primary care settings. This group of local trainers, together with a number of interested researchers decided to establish a website under the name of MISA in order to stay connected and share news and information on MI. The initial group of trainers and researchers are connected by a listserve as part of this website. See collaboration.
