A new research study is looking for female interventionists!
A new community-based study for women in the Western Cape, funded by the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, is looking for women to serve as interventionists for the study who:
- Have been trained in conducting brief interventions, preferably in a group setting
- Have a working knowledge of motivational interviewing
- Have experience working with women and/or substance-users
- Speak English, as well as Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa
- Are willing to work on a part-time basis
- Can work flexible hours (night or weekend times, if needed)
- Have a valid South African driver’s license
This study is a joint project between Research Triangle Institute (RTI) and the South African Medical Research Council and focuses on reducing sexual risk behaviour and gender based violence among substance using women.
Training for this hourly-position will begin September 2008, and study activities will start immediately after. This position is expected to last approximately 1 ½ years (until March 2010).
The interventionist will be expected to:
- Conduct brief intervention sessions with small groups of study participants
- Assist other staff members with other project-related tasks, when needed
- Transport participants to and from the field site using the project car
